Foster Application

 

Please read the following: 

 

Thank you for your interest in fostering a horse. Fostering is a really great way for the horses to gain exposure as well as the rescue. Fostering also gives us the chance to free up space at our main facility for a horse that needs immediate professional rescue care. 

 

SVERN is always willing to cover the cost of vet, farrier, dental, and medications for foster horses. We ask that fosters cover the cost of feed and hay. Please feel free to inquire about tax refunds for fostering horses. 

 

If the horse is to return to the rescue SVERN asks for at least a two week notice.

 

Different foster types: 

We offer several types of foster options. Please keep in mind that not every horse is available for every foster option and we will do our best to match the most appropriate horse to the foster home. 

• Long term foster: long term fosters are generally fosters that are looking for a horse to keep long term, but do not want to fully commit to the lifetime of a horse. Long-term fosters are generally companion horses only. 

• Short term foster: this kind of foster is aware at all times that the horse in their current care is up for adoption and can be adopted at any point. The goal of this foster is to help SVERN find a home for the horse. While called Short Term it just implies that the horse is actively up for adoption, horses may be at a foster home for months or years while awaiting the appropriate home. These horses can be rideable or companion only. 

• Training foster: These fosters help with additional training. These horses may be rideable or companion only 

• Foster to Adopt: Fosters are fostering with the likely intention of adopting the horse. 

• Hospice or Senior Fosters: Fosters that are willing to give these horses a soft landing for the last months/years of their life. These horses are all retired and looking to live out their days in comfort.

SVERN does require a farm check for all fosters
